CPSC eFiling Is Live: Readiness Gaps, Broker Confusion, and the Risks of Late or Inaccurate Data
As of July 8, 2026, CPSC eFiling is mandatory for most regulated consumer products entering the United States. While the rule is now in effect, many importers, suppliers, and even trade partners are still working through unreadiness, unclear internal processes, and confusion about who is responsible for what.

Why inaccurate or late data matters
Submitting incomplete, inaccurate, or late CPSC data can create immediate operational consequences. Reported risks include entry delays, shipment holds, increased inspections, documentation requests, storage and demurrage costs, refusal of entry, and possible detention.
There are also broader compliance risks. Incorrect certificate data or failure to comply with certification requirements can expose a company to civil penalties, criminal penalties, asset forfeiture, recalls, and other enforcement actions under the Consumer Product Safety Act.
