Single GTIN

A single GS1 US GTIN is designed to be a starter option for microbusinesses looking to quickly list a few products for sale. A GS1 US GTIN can be licensed for $30 with no annual renewal fee.

GS1 Company Prefix

A GS1 Company Prefix supports a company’s overall growth strategy, enabling easy and accurate product and location identification. Not only can you assign multiple GTINs to products and identify higher levels of packaging, but you can also identify locations with GLNs that support product traceability best practices. Your initial fee is the cost of GS1 US Membership and is based on how many identifiers you need. After that, you’ll pay an annual renewal fee to continue using your prefix and identifiers.

GLN Numbers

If you only want to identify locations, you can choose the number of single GLNs you will need to identify various locations such as warehouses, stores, shelves, or dock doors. GLNs are used to enhance supply chain visibility by providing a standardized way to track products and transactions globally.

Frequently Ask Questions

Why shoud I use GS1 US?

GS1 is the global authority for the unique identification of products and companies. Many third-party barcode vendors claim that they have GS1 barcodes, but only barcodes purchased directly from GS1 or a GS1 channel partner uniquely identify your company as the brand owner. Retailers often verify barcode authenticity by checking the GS1 Database. If your company isn’t listed there as the brand owner of that barcode, your account could be suspended or you might need to relabel products, costing you time and money.

Who should get a single GTIN?

A single GS1 US GTIN is used if you are just getting started with a few products. It can be licensed for a one-time fee of $30

What is a GTIN?

A Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is a GS1 identification key used to identify a trade item. The item can be a product or service you offer in an online listing or a brick-and-mortar store. GTINs can be used for an online product listing or encoded into a Universal Product Code (UPC) barcode.UPC barcodes use data called the GTIN-12 because it is made up of 12 digits unique to each of your products. The term UPC is sometimes used in place of GTIN-12. Barcodes containing GTINs from GS1 US offer an authentic way to identify your products in the supply chain uniquely.

Who shoud get a GS1 Complny Prefix?

The prefix includes multiple barcodes and the ability to create coupons and higher levels of packaging (cases, pallets). You can use it to identify locations as well. The GS1 Company Prefix is part of every barcode you create. It links your company to your products in the marketplace.

Why do you need a GS1 barcode?

Many retailers and marketplaces may require companies to get authentic identification numbers that link a brand to the product sold. These retailers and marketplaces check UPC barcodes in the GS1 Database to ensure this connection before approving product listings.
